While I agree with multiple disciplines, I have always thought DaVinci found mastery of many disciplines through the initial mastery of one: drawing.

Sketching pervaded every moment of DaVinci’s formative years, and his sketches of nature taught him the inner workings of nature. As he needed to learn how to “copy” natures aspects into his paper. His sketches helped him to understand all the workings of the universe, but ultimately he became a master of drawing first.

His incredible drive and practice of one skill lead him to the mastery of so many more. There may be hope for those out there seeking mastery of a single subject.
