Once you decide you’ll never quit, the things that make you want to quit will go away

I’m sure this statement has been said many times before, and far more elegantly. Even statements regarding that the hardest thing to do is to begin elude to this truth. For once you decide to begin, you’ve made the hardest decision and from that point forward you will constantly be finding ways to continue.

Finding ways to continue on your chosen path is an important differentiation between the successful, and the stagnant. Even if your path is unclear, finding ways to continue forward is the main driver of success. I would even say that the ability to always find a way to move forward, whether its creating more opportunity or moving past a perceived roadblock, is the defining factor for success. In any vocation.

We all have excuses, because excuses are easy. If you want the easy way out of a situation or hardship, just create an excuse. We are all very creative cautious creatures and will conjure up the most elaborate excuses to avoid conflict. Even if that conflict would lead us on the path to our dreams. We refuse to sacrifice the immediate feelings of safety for the eternal rewards of truth.

As with many of these poetic absolutes of life, honesty runs through its core. Being truly honest with yourself, and listening to that honesty will most assuredly lead you to your dreams. Can you find a way to achieve your goals if you truly tried? Most likely the true answer is a yes, muddied and buried under years of hard work.

Hard work may sound scary, but when you decide to follow your dreams the fear of hard work melts away. This fear comes from a fear of change more than a fear of work. Do you fear pulling out that old notebook and writing? Or do you fear the changes this almost foreign activity may bring to your current life? Be honest with yourself and you might find that work is not what you’re afraid of.
