The Oculus home screen doesn’t feel quite right. Every time I hit the menu button on accident I feel a sense of disappointment with the options presented to me. Trapped inside a bright white menu of mostly unhelpful options.

The SteamVR menu is a step better, but it’s functionality is more or less limited to the Steam ecosystem. The “display desktop” option makes all the difference in the world though, bridging the gap between VR and the 2D interfaces of PCs.

Programs like Google Blocks are beginning to utilize VR for some interesting UX. A first time VR user thrown directly into Blocks is able to learn the system within a few minutes, at least from what I could tell.

But isn’t that the issue: each individual VR experience has its own unique UX. Whereas PC games and programs of the past were all quite limited to the existing uses of mouse and keyboard.
