Different hardware setups won’t be fair. Today’s cross platform Rec Room has a large division between standing room only PSVR players and full room-scale desktop PC players.

In RP1 it’s safe to assume similar discrepancies, but there’s also a balancing act. Recall the scene where Wade purchases a new haptic suit with in game currency: It’s shipped to his real world home.

The world of the OASIS blurs the line between digital and physical goods (something we are already seeing today with $10,000 digital items in games like Counter-Strike).

In a world like RP1, any player with less than adequate hardware could grind their way through playable content in order to earn the equipment necessary to compete.

While there is much movie magic taking place, there are real world opportunities to design a well balanced “fair” virtual world.

Thanks for the great write up!
